August 17, 2013

Our friendship started about 8 years ago. We worked together for a convenience store. Being single moms of 2 kids, we had a lot of stories to share and tips to pass along that helped our friendship strengthen to what it is today. The similarities of our stories are so strange, it is quite comical all the things we have in common. Our adventures began many years ago, but we just had the idea to begin a blog so we are going to start with the most recent adventure, but we will talk about past adventures in later posts.
August 17, Jean had a planned a surprise adventure for me. She had the GPS set with 4 different stops in the Washington County Area. She had located the addresses of some covered bridges that are still standing and still in use. It was a beautiful afternoon. The weather cooperated nicely.

Our location brought us across some farm animals. They were standing under the tree for some shade from the hot summer sun. And some of the animals were wearing capes and masks because they are BATMAN!!     No, No, just to protect them from the flies.

The beautiful Pennsylvania scenery.

As we approached the first bridge, it was amazing.

As we started across it, we noticed the floor was made of wood also. It was so exciting to be able to cross a piece of history. We headed for the next destination and it was as beautiful as the first. There are no exact addresses for the bridge so we had to be on the look out for bridge signs and weight limits to direct us to our destination.

As we traveled to our next destination, I had pretty much figured out that it would be another covered bridge. The GPS took us to the address closest to the location, but the bridge evaded us. We must have missed a bridge sign directing us in the correct direction. We started to the fourth location with as much excitement as the first two and we were not disappointed.

There are many web pages with information about covered bridges. There are even covered bridge festivals. Below is a link to Pennsylvania's Covered Bridges. It gives you some history of each bridge, photos, and the general location of the bridges. I enjoyed our surprise adventure and can not wait until the next one.
